It's Always Rock and Roll
Just caught ex-Heldon guitarist Richard Pinhas' show at Highways in Los Angeles last night. He looked and sounded pretty good, tackling an imposing twenty minute piece with the help of Jerome Schmidt on computer. Other than the fact that half the sound's coming out of a laptop, there's not a ton of difference between this new stuff and the first couple Heldon records; it's all just a little more clogged up with audio info—something it seems we can't get away from these days. Other than that, the set was just what you's expect from "one of the premier conceptualizers and earliest proponents on the French electronic scene" —disaffected and intense.
Pinhas is on his way up to San Francisco now so check here for the lowdown.
Comments
Agreed re your comments on that Pinhas show. A head of hair to kill for at that age. My one main complaint was that the laptop was not what was shown as any of the visuals. Were there sound files being created as Pinhas played? Both of those dudes could have phoned it in although being in the same room as Richard was cool. Kicked myself for not having a smoke with him outside. It would be nice to see what their interplay was other than a few comments back and forth to each other. Makes a kinda dull experience. Disaffected is right. Was nice to see Hubert Selby, Jr.'s mug up on that screen though. Any help with who the others were? Deleuze?

Glad to hear it sounded good! Playing up here with him on sunday (tomorrow, July 1st) at Rotture..The show is criminally under-publicized so any Pinhas fans up in Portland please come out!
Was there a drummer too? I heard he was touring with the magma drummer....no?
