Mutant

I recently came across a copy of this offset poster advertised as "Rick Griffin standing before the doors of perception." It's a Berkeley Bonaparte poster from '68 probably, BB being the agency that produced many of the popular posters at the time. This one's credited to Bob Seidemann, the same guy that took a lot of memorable shots of the S.F. groups at the time. I really dug the image so I contacted Bob to ask him a little bit more about it. Here's what he replied...
The person in that doorway is not Rick Griffin. It is David Getz, drummer in Big Brother & the Holding Company, a close friend. The title of the picture is MUTANT. The building used for a set is in fact a part of the Lawrence-Livermore Laboratory in Berkeley, it was under construction at the time. The stuff which appears in that doorway consists of a collage of Einstein's eye, a monk who burned himself in protest of the war in Vietnam and a picture of the first atomic bomb test in New Mexico.
Best regards,
Bob Seidemann
